Les Enfoires
Les Enfoires (fr: [lez afwaRe], 'The Tossers' or 'The Bastards') are the French celebrities who assemble each year for a series of concerts in support of the charity "Les Restos du Coeur". It is a massively popular show which gathers the biggest French new and old stars to put on a 3 hour stage show filmed live for TV. Each DVD/CD sold sponsors 18 meals for the charity and the shows themselves generate a huge TV audience.
Every year about 40 singers/artists/actors join forces to sing a mix of current and classic French songs with a little English pop thrown in for good measure. The show is a big production with elaborate costumes and lots of choreographies - the artists also play little comic interludes between their songs to lighten things up a bit. During the concert each song is sung by 4 people taking turns or singing harmonies and some of the acts are even playing instruments!
The name of the band is a play on words from one of the founders, comedian Coluche who was known for his crass language and humor. He called his friend artists 'enfoires' (Dumbass) and the word stuck!
During the '90s the band limited itself to one-off concerts and television specials but since the turn of the millennium they have been releasing an album each year that usually hits number 1 in France. The last one to hit the charts was 2010's 'Les Enfoires... La crise de nerfs!'
